The Tale of the Shepherd Boy
Deep within the enchanting rolling hills, dwelt a young shepherd. His life was pure, simple yet virtuous. His primary duty was to care for his herd of rams.
Their low murmuring and the rustling of the gales through the lone tree on the mountaintop were his main companions. Day after day, looking read more out for his responsibilities inculcated in him a sense of tranquil contentment.
However, there were occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would pine for companionship. On one such day from sheer boredom, the shepherd boy conceived a naughty scheme.
Tales of wild beasts prowling on sheep had long been circulating in the village. So, the boy opted to leveraged this fear and played a trick on the townsfolk.
One day he ran into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The frightened villagers ran up the hills for rescue but discovered nothing threatening.
The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This trick persisted for a few days more. But, one morning, a real wolf actually attack the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy dashed for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could protect only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he returned to the village only to be met with a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of crying wolf.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once lost, is hard to reclaim. It's a story as appropriate today as it was anciently.
